Who we are
Painted Sorority is operated by PaintedApp, LLC, 1327 SE Tacoma St #394, Portland, OR 97202. When these terms say "we", they mean PaintedApp, LLC. Write support@painted.app about anything here.
What you are buying
Painted Sorority sells coats of arms that you design in our configurator, printed on the product you choose. A crest you adopt from our gallery, build from your line's values and interests, or write as a blazon is drawn by our software from that blazon. A crest you describe in words is painted by an AI image model from your text, and you see it before you buy anything made from it. Every line in your cart is the design you approved, exactly as previewed.
These are assumed arms: designs a line adopts as its own. Painted Sorority is not a heraldic authority and does not grant arms. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by any fraternity, sorority or honor society, and nothing we sell is the crest, coat of arms, badge or recorded arms of any organization, person or family.
In Scotland, arms are a matter of law: bearing arms that are not recorded with the Court of the Lord Lyon is an offence under the Lyon King of Arms Act 1672. Buyers in Scotland should treat a design from us as a design, and petition the Lord Lyon before using arms as their own.
Prints, canvases, shirts, hoodies, throws, pillows, mugs and totes are made to order by our print partners and shipped to the address you give at checkout. Digital purchases deliver a full-size file by download link, live for 30 days.
Your license, and who owns what
A purchase buys you the physical piece, or the file, and a license to use the design you made for personal purposes: hang it, wear it, give it to your line, print it on an invitation or a program. It does not license commercial use: no reselling prints, files or merchandise. Want a commercial arrangement? Write support@painted.app and ask.
Gallery crests and the suggestions the configurator makes are not exclusive. Another line may adopt the same design, so add your own words, color or changes if you want yours to be one of a kind.
We keep whatever rights the law gives us in our gallery designs, our drawings and our software. The words you add are yours. A crest painted from your description is licensed to you on the same terms; the law on copyright in AI-assisted images is unsettled and differs by country, so we make no promise that it can be registered or enforced as a copyright by anyone.
Your words, and what we will not make
Words and descriptions you enter must be lawful and yours to use. Do not ask for the arms of a real nation, royal house, city, school, team or company, for the name, Greek letters, nickname, crest, badge or motto of any fraternity, sorority or honor society, for a trademark or logo, for a real, identifiable person, or for anything hateful, sexual, violent or infringing. The configurator checks your words against those organizations' names, letters and mottos and will not take an order that carries one. We do not draw the sacred designs of living traditions, among them Northwest Coast formline, Māori, Hawaiian and Anishinaabe designs and adinkra. We screen every description and every line of words, refuse what breaks these rules, and may decline to print any design, refunding anything paid for it.
Each visitor gets free paintings from a description; after that, they are sold in packs. A painting that fails because of a fault on our side is given back automatically. Packs have no cash value and are not transferable.
Age
The shop and accounts are for adults. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must place the order and agree to these terms.
Payment and orders
Prices are shown at checkout and charged by Stripe. Production starts promptly after payment — that is what makes made-to-order pieces fast, and what makes cancellation a narrow window.
Refunds and defects
Every piece is made to order for you, so change-of-mind returns are not accepted. A damaged, misprinted or wrong piece is replaced or refunded, and a digital file that never arrives is refunded in full. The refund policy has the details and time limits. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer.
The honest limits
We describe every piece accurately, but screens and paper differ: small color variance between the image on your screen and the ink on your wall is the nature of printing, not a defect. To the extent the law allows, our liability for any order is limited to replacing it or refunding what you paid for it, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes and the line under it says what changed. The terms in force when you placed an order are the ones that apply to it.
