# Painted Sorority

> Arms you make for your little and your line, drawn by the herald’s rules.

Painted Sorority makes coats of arms for a line of sisters: a big and her little, a g-big, the twins who share a big. Adopt one of our crests, build one from what your line holds to, or describe the one you imagine and we paint it. Choose the color around it, add a Greek motto and your line’s names, and we print it in color or engraved to paint by hand, on canvas, fine-art paper, shirts, hoodies, throws, pillows, mugs and totes. We print no organization’s letters, crest or badge. Part of the Painted family.

## What it is

- A configurator (https://paintedsorority.vercel.app/make) that makes a coat of arms for a line of sorority sisters (a big and her
little, a g-big, the twins who share a big) and prints it, in color or engraved to paint by hand.
- Four ways to a crest:
  1. Adopt one of 29 new crests in 6 groups of meaning (sisterhood, learning, courage and others).
  2. Build one from what the line values and what it studies; the heraldry engine proposes designs
and gives the sourced meaning of every part (Guillim 1679, Sloane-Evans 1854).
  3. Describe it in words; an image model paints two versions (4 free passes per visitor,
     then 10 more for $10).
  4. Write a blazon, the formal language of arms; the drawing follows it.
- The customer chooses the color around the crest (any color), may set a Greek motto above it (each an
ancient line or a dictionary word, with its translation), a letter across it, and up to four names below.
- Every design is checked against the heralds' rule of tincture and drawn as vector art at full print size.

## What it is not

- Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by any sorority, fraternity or honor society. It prints no
organization's name, Greek letters, nickname, crest, badge or motto; the configurator checks a customer's
words against 144 organizations and refuses a match, naming whose mark it is.
- These are assumed arms: a design a line adopts as its own, with no grant and no national behind it.
- Its own gallery leaves out charges single organizations are known by (the lamp, the torch, the anchor, the key, the crescent, the fleur-de-lis).
- It does not draw sacred or living-tradition designs (Northwest Coast, Maori, Hawaiian, Anishinaabe,
adinkra) and refuses requests for them.
